Marek Ziolkowski started his diplomatic career in 1991 in Belarus. In 1992 the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Minsk was officially established and he was appointed Counsellor-Deputy Head of Mission. From September 1995 till November 1996 he was Head of Mission at the rank of charge d’affaires. After completing his mission in Belarus, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw as an expert on Poland’s policy towards its Eastern neighbours. For several years he served as Director of Department of Eastern Europe at the MFA.
In May 2001 he was appointed to the post of Ambassador to Ukraine.The period of 2001-2005 when he served as Head of Mission in Kiev, was strongly marked with dynamic development of Polish-Ukrainian strategic partnership, the rise of Polish investment in Ukraine and Poland’s political support to the Ukrainian Orange Revolution. In 2005, when back in Warsaw, he started to broaden his competence in the area of multilateral affairs.As deputy head of Security Policy Department (2005-2008) he was involved in OSCE affaires, counter-terrorism and regional security. From 2008 till 2011 he served as Director of Development Cooperation Department at the MFA.
In August 2012 he started his duty as the Ambassador of Poland to Nairobi. He is author of numerous publications regarding Belarussian and Ukrainian minorities in Poland and a few books. His last work entitled ‘Project Ukraine’ was published in 2008. He speaks English, Russian and Ukrainian. His hobby is photography. Amb. M.
